How long does SEO take to work?
How long does SEO take to work? There is no date that fits every site, because the time depends on the site and its market. The first signs show in your data before they show in sales. Below: what the time depends on, what moves first, and two real examples with dates.
3 to 4 months recommended
You can stop at any time
What the time depends on
- The starting point. A new site with no history needs more time than an existing site that Google already knows.
- The technical state. When Google cannot read or index the pages, the faults hold every other effort back.
- What the site already covers. The more pages a site is still missing for its buyers' topics, the more work comes before it can show its expertise.
- The competition. The stronger the pages that compete for the searches that matter to you, the more the site must do to stand out.
- The speed of changes. Fixes and new pages count only once they are live, so the faster they go live, the sooner Google can judge them.
- Google's own pace. Google needs time to find, read and re-evaluate pages after they change, so a change does not show on the day it goes live.
What moves first
Impressions move first: how often the site appears in Google results. Clicks usually rise after impressions, and enquiries after clicks. So the early signs show in your data before they show in sales, and SEO rarely pays back in the first one or two months.
You can watch impressions move before clicks in your own Search Console. Our guide How to know if SEO is working shows what to look at and when.
AI answers move faster than Google. A clear, well-made page is often named in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers within weeks, while Google search usually takes months. The sachukari.ge example below shows it: ChatGPT started sending it visitors in the second week after launch, and by the fifth week it sent more page views than Google. Good structure serves both.
- Impressions
- Clicks
- Enquiries

Two real examples, with dates
The first example is a client on our results page: a new site where SEO started from zero. Its clicks from Google search were 13 in March 2026 and 559 in September 2026, and every month was higher than the one before. The first months were small, and most of the growth came later.
The second example is sachukari.ge, our project. It is a Georgian gift finder that trueSEO built and runs the SEO for, since its launch on 27 September 2026. In the 7 days from 26 October to 1 November 2026, it had 399 page views.
At that pace, sachukari.ge gets about 1,700 page views a month from ChatGPT and Google: about 930 from ChatGPT and about 780 from Google. On 26 October 2026, ChatGPT named it in 6 of 10 runs for a Georgian question about a good gift under 50 lari.
These are two examples, each with its own dates. They show how the curve can look.
What the timing means for a contract
We recommend 3 to 4 months. That time covers the audit and plan, the fixes to the base and the first new pages, which are months 1 to 3 of our order of work. The recommended term is written down with the rest of our contract terms before you start, and your accounts and data stay yours.
Questions about how long SEO takes
Can SEO work faster?
The pace depends on the site's starting point and on how quickly fixes and new pages go live. A site that gets its changes live fast gives Google more to judge sooner.
Why can a new site take longer to start?
A new site has no history with Google yet. Google needs time to find the site, read its pages and judge them. Until then, positions move slowly, so the first stage often takes longer than on a site Google already knows.
Is AI visibility quicker than SEO?
Yes. A clear, well-made page is often named in AI answers within weeks, while Google usually takes months. One example: ChatGPT named sachukari.ge, our project, in 6 of 10 runs on 26 October 2026, within its first month. Good structure serves both.
What if nothing changes after three months?
Look at impressions first, in whole calendar months, because they move before clicks. Our monthly report shows them from your own Search Console. When impressions are flat too, the site needs a full check.
Do I have to sign for 3 or 4 months?
No. We recommend 3 to 4 months, but it is not a lock. Each month is paid in advance at its start, there is no notice period, and you can stop any time.
